Hypocrisy Over the Trump-Ukraine Scandal
October 4, 2019
“What many Russians, but few Americans, know is that 20 years before Russia tried to swing an American presidential election, America tried to swing a presidential election in Russia. The year was 1996. Boris Yeltsin was seeking a second term, and Bill Clinton desperately wanted to help. “I want this guy to win so bad,” he told Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott, ‘it hurts.’”
The Atlantic, July 22, 2018
The excessive sentiment of appalled hysteria — at the thought of other countries interfering in US elections — produced by the Trump-Ukraine scandal, confirms the unashamed hypocrisy of a nation that has interfered in the electoral process of more than 85 other countries since 1945 https://bit.ly/2Oop8T6 and is still doing so as for example in Venezuela https://bit.ly/2o3ORE6. While Americans appear to have suddenly become concerned over electoral interference by foreign powers, they have chosen for decades to unpatriotically ignore the total control of their Congress and the White House by the subversive American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) https://bit.ly/2Mj3KsS.
Current US concerns over foreign power interference is at best ironic, and at worst hypocritical, because when it comes to hegemonic interference and interventions, the US is second to none and is currently bestriding the world with some 800 military bases in more than 70 countries and territories — Britain, France, and Russia combined have only about 30 overseas bases — while also being responsible for the killing of more than 20 million people in 37 countries since the Second World War.
It is consequently of no surprise that a new Wall Street report implies that the actual US debt level may be some $400 trillion, or 20 times higher than the country’s gross domestic product https://bit.ly/2kKo4LC. This comes at a time when the US Congress has approved a $738 billion defence budget deal for 2020 https://bit.ly/2oUDE9m while the 2019 budget for the Department of Education was $59.9 billion — $8 billion or 12 percent less than in 2018 — resulting in the following US literacy statistics:
* More than 30 million adults in the United States cannot read, write, or do basic math above a third-grade level. — ProLiteracy
* Children whose parents have low literacy levels have a 72 percent chance of being at the lowest reading levels themselves. These children are more likely to get poor grades, display behavioural problems, have high absentee rates, repeat school years, or drop out. — National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER)
* 75 percent of state prison inmates did not complete high school or can be classified as low literate. — Rand Report: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Correctional Education
* Low literacy is said to be connected to over $230 billion a year in health care costs because almost half of Americans cannot read well enough to comprehend health information, incurring higher costs. — American Journal of Public Health
This reality has led to a large percentage of Americans — whether because of sheer ignorance, apathy, isolationist tendencies, or dangerous and unjustified delusions of triumphalism — lacking the information necessary to either follow international events, or to participate in the essential requirements for having an enlightened, healthy, and true democracy where governance of the people is by “the people” and not by powerful lobby groups — who buy influence over Congress — including AIPAC https://bit.ly/2SOvFI2, and the defence contractors who spend well over $100 million annually on lobbying.
Efforts to “Make America Great Again” by an egocentric, mentally disturbed, and illiterate racist President who is a pathological liar with psychopathic tendencies is unlikely to meet with any degree of success as is evident from the following short video: https://on.msnbc.com/2ZeViVX. Having said that, and in fairness, it should be recognised that America’s decline started long before the catastrophe of Trump presidency.
Equally important to recognise is that while America’s military might has been gratuitously killing millions of people and destroying cultures overseas, the American people — at least those who are literate — have themselves begun to sense that something is very wrong with their own society and are concerned about rising socio-economic inequality, the erosion of national identity and purpose, increasing social polarisation, and a growing contempt around the world for their country which during the 1950s and 1960s was the richest and most envied nation on earth. Since then, America ― once the world’s premier creditor nation ― has become the number one debtor nation whose ideology of denial, falsehood, wishful thinking, and self-deception has decayed its moral fibre so that 48 percent of American children are born to an unmarried mother while 43 percent of American children live in a home without a father https://wapo.st/2nznpOO.
As the US continues pursuing unchallenged global hegemony, the American Dream has become a terrifying nightmare from which sensible Americans would like to escape by waking up to a new dawn with true meaning and honourable purpose.
“Oh! had I the ability, and could I reach the nation's ear, I would today pour out a fiery stream of biting ridicule, blasting reproach, withering sarcasm, and stern rebuke. For it is not light that is needed, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake. The feeling of the nation must be quickened; the conscience of the nation must be roused; the propriety of the nation must be startled; the hypocrisy of the nation must be exposed; and its crimes against God and man must be proclaimed and denounced . . . ”
